Cookies and cache

What these words mean

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, usually so the site can recognise the same browser later. Local storage does a similar job with a different mechanism. The cache is a copy of files such as images, styles, and video that your browser or a delivery network keeps so pages load faster the next time.

What this site actually stores

This site does not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, social media pixels, or any third party tracker. There is exactly one item:

• a local storage entry that records that you dismissed the cookie notice, so it does not reappear on every page. It holds a single word and nothing about you.

The request form on this site opens your own email application. It does not send anything to us in the background and it stores nothing in your browser.

Strictly necessary items

Our host may set short lived security or load balancing values needed to serve the page and to protect against abuse. These are not used to track you across sites, and the site cannot function without them.

Caching

Images, fonts, styles, and the background film on the home page are cached by your browser and by the content delivery network in front of our site. Caching is why the page feels quick on a second visit, and why the film can play smoothly while you scroll. Cached files sit on your own device and expire on their own.

If you ever see an out of date version of a page, a hard refresh normally fixes it. On most desktop browsers that is Control and F5, or Command and Shift and R on a Mac.

Clearing what is stored

Every browser lets you clear cookies, local storage, and cache from its privacy or history settings, and lets you block storage for individual sites. Clearing ours simply means the cookie notice appears again on your next visit. Nothing about your service request depends on it.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Because we run no tracking or advertising technology, there is nothing here for a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal to switch off. We honour those signals by default in the only way that is meaningful: we do not collect that data in the first place.

Fonts

This site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google to fetch them. That request is subject to Google's own privacy terms. No other third party is contacted by this site.
