How mobile battery replacement actually works

What happens between the phone call and driving away, and what mobile service can and cannot do compared with a garage.

If you have never used a mobile battery service, the useful thing to know is that it removes the two expensive parts of a battery replacement, which were never the battery. Those parts are the tow and the day without your car.

The call

You describe where the car is and what it is doing, and you give the year, make, and model. That last part matters more than it sounds, because it determines the group size, terminal layout, and cranking rating that will actually fit. With that, we quote the total before anyone is dispatched.

What gets loaded

The correct battery for your vehicle goes on the van before it leaves, along with the tools and a jump pack. That is the whole difference between this and having a battery delivered to your door, which still leaves you fitting it yourself in the cold.

At the vehicle

We test first. If the battery is healthy and something drained it, you get a jump start and an explanation rather than a sale. If it is finished, the old battery comes out, the terminals and clamps get cleaned back to bare metal, the new one goes in and gets properly secured, and the charging system is checked afterwards.

We use a memory saver during the swap so your radio presets, clock, and stored settings survive the disconnection. Some vehicles need a short relearn regardless, and we tell you if yours is one of them before we start.

Newer vehicles

Cars with start stop systems usually need the new battery registered to the battery management system. Skipping that leaves the car charging to the profile of a battery that is no longer there, which shortens the life of the one you just paid for. We do the registration as part of the job.

Hybrids and electric vehicles have a 12V battery too, and when it dies the car will not start or wake up. We handle those. The traction pack is a workshop job and we will say so.

The old battery

It leaves with us and goes to be recycled. There is no core charge and nothing left in your trunk.

Where it works

Streets, driveways, workplace lots, shopping centres, apartment and condo parking, and most structured garages. Ceiling height is the only common obstacle, so tell us the level. Gated and secured yards need access arranged before we set off rather than at the barrier.

What mobile service cannot do

We are a mobile battery and roadside service, not a full repair shop. Alternators, starters, wiring faults, and anything mechanical need a workshop. We will identify them, get you running if we can, and tell you plainly where to go next.

Need this dealt with rather than read about?

We come to the car, test the battery and the charging system, and fit a replacement on the spot if you need one. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week across New York City and New Jersey.
